Stabilization is the first phase of any preservation attempt and one that must be performed by qualified professionals who know their stuff. Once a property has been stabilized, a thorough analysis of the structure, including the original materials, design and architecture must be made. Forensically the structure needs to be analyzed and a needs assessment performed to determine the extent of renovation needed. Where there are no clues available, period detail must be documented and often applied to design. This can be a phased approach to see what was done in the past and always considers the needs of the current caretaker alongside the standards set by any local governing boards.Pre-Construction Planning
